Study Leave Changes

05/10/24

NHSE have provided update guidance on international study leave in October's training email:

"Please note that from 1 January 2025 there will be a change to the reimbursement rules for international study leave. For approved events taking place from 1 January 2025 onwards, NHSE will reimburse the lower amount of either the course fee or the travel and accommodation expenses. In cases where the course fee has been waived, reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses can be claimed up to a maximum of £1000.

Please note that all international events require prospective approval from TPD and Head of School via the discretionary study leave process. Please make sure travel and accommodation expenses are within our daily limits. For accommodation, the overnight rate should not exceed £150 per night"

Please note at the time of writing the limits quoted in the text above and stated on the website differ. Please clarify directly with NHSE prior to booking

Self-Development Time

01/08/24

Good news SpRs! Self-development time (SDT) is no longer just for our junior colleagues. You are entitled to an average of 2 days every month which is combined for both your GIM and your parent speciality. For LTFT trainees your entitlement is pro-rata.

You need to discuss your SDT with your supervisor so that they can be taken at a mutually convenient time, and so that there is an agreement as to how you will be using your time on those days.

The JRCPTB have released guidance stating that they expect us to receive time within our work schedule for clinic admin, with an indicative expectation of approximately 2 hours for every half day clinic.
